van Biema Value Partners was founded in 2004 by Michael van Biema. Prior to founding van Biema Value Partners,
Michael van Biema served on the faculty of Columbia Business School for twelve years where he taught courses on
Value Investing and consulted for companies including Goldman Sachs, Gabelli Asset Management, CitiGroup, Salomon
Brothers, Verizon, and Vontobel Asset management. While teaching at Columbia, the birthplace of Value Investing,
van Biema identified the opportunity of small, under-the-radar Value managers. Part of the inspiration for this
idea came from Warren Buffet’s well-known speech and subsequent article entitled “The Super Investors of
Graham&Doddsville." A more complete background of the company is given in the Barron’s article attached below,
which was written in 2005 by a former student of Professor van Biema’s.
